Manama: Dr. Shaikha Rana bint Isa bin Duaij Al Khalifa, Director General of the Bahrain Institute of Public Administration (BIPA), participated in the 24th session of the Committee of Experts on Public Administration (CEPA) of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). Dr. Shaikha Rana emphasized the need to foster a culture of innovation within government sectors to achieve sustainability and attract young talent, noting the evolving role of the public sector as a platform for societal impact and fulfilling citizens' aspirations.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Dr. Shaikha Rana highlighted the necessity for modern public administration to keep pace with rapid global developments and adapt through innovative practices and methodologies, especially in the face of challenges such as climate change, technological advancement, and demographic shifts. During the session, she presented the "Future of Work in Government for GCC Countries" programme, launched in the last quarter of 2024. This initiative involved 65 young leaders from public sector institutions across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
The programme is described as a pioneering model for nurturing young talent in the public sector, combining technical and leadership skills through workshops and field training that mimic real-world government challenges. These are delivered by leading practitioners and international experts. Dr. Shaikha Rana expressed pride in Bahrain's successful hosting of the programme's second phase, describing it as an exceptional experience and a successful model for potential global adoption.
Discussing the attraction of young professionals to government service, Dr. Shaikha Rana stressed the importance of engaging the new generation through digital platforms and modern media, while highlighting public sector success stories. She emphasized that modern youth seek more than mere employment opportunities; they desire to work in institutions that align with their values and can deliver tangible community impacts.
Dr. Shaikha Rana concluded by asserting that transforming the public sector hinges on a shared vision, international cooperation, smart technology, and accurate data, but most importantly, investment in human capital.
