Interior Ministry’s director elected Egmont Group Regional Representative

(BNA): Interior Ministry’s Financial Investigation Director Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al-Khalifa has been elected uncontested as Regional Representative for the Middle East and North Africa at The Egmont Group of Financial Intelligence Units.

Shaikha Mai, also Deputy Chairperson of the Anti-money laundering and terror financing committee, was elected during the meeting which was held remotely by the The Egmont Group of Financial Intelligence Units remotely.

The Egmont Group of Financial Intelligence Units is an international organisation that facilitates cooperation and intelligence sharing between national financial intelligence units (FIUs) to investigate and prevent money laundering and terror financing.

Shaikha Mai valued the support of the Minister of Interior, Chair of the Anti-extremism, terror financing and money laundering, highlighting Bahrain’s pivotal role in combating money laundering and drying up terror financing.

She said that the Interior Ministry’s Financial Investigation Directorate seeks to enhance Bahrain’s regional and international role in combating money laundering and terror financing.
