Washington: General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Bahrain's Minister of Interior, engaged in a significant meeting with Tulsi Gabbard, the United States Director of National Intelligence, during his official visit to the United States. The meeting underscored the commitment of both nations to strengthen their strategic partnership and to address mutual security challenges.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the meeting was attended by key figures including Shaikh Abdulla bin Rashid Al Khalifa, Bahrain's Ambassador to the United States, and Shaikh Hisham bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior for Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs, along with other delegation members. The US Director of National Intelligence highlighted the importance of the visit for advancing bilateral relations and enhancing cooperation across multiple sectors.
General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa reiterated Bahrain's dedication to promoting openness and coexistence under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. He praised the robust relations between Bahrain and the United States, emphasizing their joint efforts to enhance regional stability and the importance of sharing expertise to tackle shared challenges.
The discussions covered security and strategic issues, with a focus on emerging challenges that require coordinated efforts. The Interior Minister also met with William F. Wechsler, Senior Director of the Middle East Programmes at the Atlantic Council, where he underscored the role of think tanks in building a shared vision for national security and foreign policy.
During the visit, the Minister highlighted the memorandum of cooperation between the Ministry of Interior and the US Department of Homeland Security, emphasizing the significance of information sharing for border security. He pointed out the necessity of international agreements to employ modern technologies in securing borders.
The discussions further explored ongoing projects by the Ministry of Interior, including alternative sentencing and rehabilitation programmes, stressing the importance of protecting youth from extremism and intolerance.
