Manama: General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, the Minister of Interior, held a meeting with members of the Shura Council's Human Rights Committee, chaired by Dr. Mohammed Al Khozaie. The discussions focused on the collaborative efforts to address national security matters and the promotion of human rights principles within the Kingdom.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the minister expressed his appreciation for the Shura Council's contributions towards supporting security efforts that aim to safeguard the nation and its achievements. He emphasized the Ministry of Interior's commitment to promoting human rights through various initiatives, including community policing, the Alternative Sentencing Programme, and the Open Prisons Programme.
General Shaikh Rashid highlighted that the development of these security programmes is in line with the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. He acknowledged the government's support, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in implementing projects and rehabilitation programmes that foster social cohesion.
The minister praised Bahrain's National Human Rights Plan for its initiatives aimed at strengthening the human rights framework within the Kingdom. He described the Alternative Sentencing Programme and the Open Prisons Programme as exemplary models recognized internationally for their standards and innovative rehabilitation efforts.
Emphasizing legislative support, the minister called for expanding these initiatives to benefit society. He also highlighted the role of community police in executing the Ma'an (Together) Programme to combat violence and addiction. The programme has been extended to include educational curricula that promote tolerance and counter extremism, aiming to protect young people from various risks.
Committee members, in turn, applauded the Ministry of Interior's personnel for their efforts in upholding and protecting human rights. They acknowledged the success of the Alternative Sentencing Programme and reaffirmed their dedication to legislative advancements to enhance national security and safeguard public resources.
