Manama: General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior and Chairman of the Ministerial Committee for Information and Communication Technology (MCICT), chaired the committee's meeting, which brought together key government officials to discuss advancements in digital transformation.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the meeting was attended by Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Hamad bin Faisal Al Malki, Minister of Cabinet Affairs; Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak Juma, Minister of Education; Abdulla bin Adel Fakhro, Minister of Industry and Commerce; and Mohammed Ali Al Qaed, Chief Executive of the Information and eGovernment Authority (iGA). The Chairman praised His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa's directives supporting the Kingdom's comprehensive digital transformation, stressing the importance of digital sustainability and strategic aspirations.
General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah highlighted the continuous efforts of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in initiatives designed to improve government service efficiency and modernize operations. These efforts have contributed to Bahrain's top position in the global UN e-Government Development Index (EGDI).
During the meeting, after ratifying the previous minutes and reviewing past decisions, the committee discussed agenda items, including updates on enhancing and continuously developing government services. The Minister stressed the necessity of implementing an executive plan to achieve full digitalization of all eligible government services.
The committee also approved a national digital economy strategy, aligning it with the national digital trade strategy, as presented by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce. Furthermore, various proposals from the Information and eGovernment Authority (iGA), such as policies related to UN indicators and a proposed code of ethics for artificial intelligence, were reviewed and slated for further study.
