Accra:Major General Abdullah Mohammed Al Zayed, Inspector General at the Ministry of Interior, attended the closing ceremony of the 2026 Ministry of Interior Open Powerlifting Championship. The event was hosted by the Police Sports Association over four days at the Raffles Al Areen Palace with participation from more than 102 athletes representing 14 countries.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the Inspector General emphasized the Ministry of Interior's commitment, under the guidance of General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, to organizing international sporting events that bolster Bahrain's reputation in the global sports arena. He acknowledged the efforts of Lieutenant General Tariq bin Hassan Al Hassan, Chief of Police, for his involvement in the Police Sports Association's events.
Major General Al Zayed praised the organizing committee for their excellent execution, highlighting the technical standards and sportsmanship displayed by the participants. Brigadier Khalid Abdulaziz Al Khayat, President of the Police Sports Association, stated that the championship was organized for the first time in collaboration with the World Raw Powerlifting Federation (WRPF), ensuring international standards were met for both participants and spectators.
The championship concluded with Major General Al Zayed honoring winners in various categories. In the men's Overall Full Powerlifting Modern Raw - Knee Sleeves category, Mohammed Fathallah won first place, followed by Hashim Arif Al Hassan and Abdullah Mohammed Ahmed. In the men's Overall Full Powerlifting Classic Raw - Knee Wraps category, Yusuf Al Esnawi took first place, with Waseem Al Hammadi and Sayed Ahmed Adel in second and third, respectively. In the women's Overall Full Powerlifting Modern Raw - Knee Sleeves category, Dana Hassan Hameed secured first place, with Fatima Haider and Uzma Mushtaq taking second and third.
The Inspector General extended his best wishes to all participants for their future endeavors.
