Industry Minister Chairs 59th National Committee Meeting for Standardisation and Metrology.

Manama: Abdulla bin Adel Fakhro, Minister of Industry and Commerce, chaired the 59th meeting of the National Committee for Standardisation and Metrology. The meeting was attended by Eman Ahmed Al Doseri, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Shaikh Hamad bin Salman Al Khalifa, Assistant Undersecretary for Domestic and Foreign Trade, and members of the Committee representing both the public and private sectors. According to Bahrain News Agency, the minister underscored the importance of the partnership between the ministry and standardisation entities, reiterating the ministry's dedication to adhering to specifications and metrology while keeping up with their latest developments. The discussions during the meeting centered around the approval of 1130 optional standard specifications and 10 technical regulations. Additionally, a Gulf standard and technical regulation were withdrawn at the national level after thorough examination by the competent local technical committees of the National C ommittee for Standardization and Metrology. This step ensures the suitability of these projects for application in Bahrain and aligns with the requirements of the Agreement on the Removal of Technical Barriers for trade activity related to the World Trade Organisation (WTO). The meeting also saw the adoption of the Designated Laboratories Role (DIS) Manual, which outlines the activities expected of designated laboratories and the criteria necessary for providing measurement capabilities. This manual is a significant step in ensuring that the laboratories meet the required standards and contribute effectively to the country's standardisation and metrology efforts.
