Industry and Tourism Minister tours markets; vows clampdown on violators

Industry and Commerce Minister Abdulla bin Adel Fakhro paid inspection visits to to suqs and hypermarkets to ensure to check on the availability of commodities, especially basic foodstuffs, and the stability of their prices, in addition to listening to the observations of consumers and merchants.

He stressed commitments to conduct inspection tours regularly in various markets, indicating that the competent departments at the ministry monitor the markets continuously to ensure that there is no price tampering and clamp down on fraudulent practices, incorrect discounts and any other irregularities, noting that legal measures will be taken against violators.

The minister took stock of different types of goods and basic commodities and checked their prices and values from the main suppliers and the margin of profit.

He noted that the ministry conducts studies that clarify the rates of commodity prices in the local and global market, identify the causes of price hikes for some commodities, if any, and take the appropriate decisions regarding them.

He thanked suppliers and merchants for their cooperation and commitment to provide and offer various main products in the local markets at reasonable prices, and to maintain the flow of markets.
