Manama: His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, has issued Edict (17) of 2026, which extends the term of municipal councils due to ongoing circumstances and their implications. The edict stipulates that the current municipal councils will continue their duties until new councils are formed.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Article I of the edict specifies that the term of municipal councils will be extended for six months from their original expiry date. The councils are instructed to maintain their responsibilities during this period to ensure continuity of operations.
Article II of the edict mandates the relevant authorities to implement the edict's provisions, with enforcement commencing the day after its publication in the Official Gazette. This measure is intended to provide stability and continuity in local governance amidst prevailing conditions.
