Manama: His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa received Isa Al Shaiji, Chairman of the Bahrain Journalists Association (BJA), along with board members at Al Safriya Palace. This meeting marked the formation of the Association's new board and the enactment of the Press and Electronic Media Law.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the board expressed their gratitude to His Majesty for approving the new law, which they consider a significant milestone in the evolution of journalism and media in Bahrain. His Majesty emphasized the pivotal role of the national press as an ally in the Kingdom's sustainable development and its dedication to national responsibilities.
His Majesty highlighted the distinguished status of Bahraini journalism, acknowledging the contributions of its pioneers and the ongoing influence of successive generations. These elements serve as a foundation for intellectual discourse and play a crucial role in preserving Bahrain's national identity.
Furthermore, His Majesty congratulated the board and the broader media community on the introduction of the modern Press and Electronic Media Law. He stated that the law is designed to advance national journalism and media, enhance their developmental roles, fulfill the aspirations of media professionals, and safeguard their rights.
His Majesty also pointed out the collaborative efforts between the executive and legislative branches in finalizing this law, which serves as a basis for ongoing development and modernization in Bahrain. In a move to further support the Bahraini press, His Majesty instructed that land be allocated and funding provided for constructing a new headquarters for the Bahrain Journalists Association. Lastly, His Majesty asked the BJA Chairman to extend his greetings and best wishes to all journalists and media professionals, acknowledging their contributions to the Kingdom and its citizens.
