HM King receives annual reports of Shura, Representatives councils

His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa today received the annual reports of the Shura and Representatives councils for the fourth session of the Fifth Legislative Term.

HM the King was handed over the reports while receiving Shura Council Chairman, Ali bin Saleh Al-Saleh, and Council of Representatives Speaker, Fawzia bint Abdulla Zainal, in addition to their deputies, at the at Al-Sakhir Palace today.

HM the King expressed thanks and appreciation to the Shura Chairman and Speaker for the dedicated and successful efforts they had exerted throughout the Fifth Legislative Term, hailing the kingdom’s achievements in strengthening the democratic march in the interests of the nation and the citizens.

HM King Hamad expressed pride in the effective role the legislative branch plays in supporting the kingdom’s development process, defending top national interests, and strengthening cooperation relations with various brotherly and friendly countries.

HM the King affirmed that Bahrain is a cohesive one-family nation with a highly patriotic people, adding that the kingdom’s progress march will continue in all fields.

HM King Hamad indicated that Bahrain boasts a rich history and a prosperous present across various fields, citing its wide-ranging achievements.

His Majesty commended the achievements and constructive ideas on ways to develop the legislative performance in the kingdom included in the annual reports of the Shura and Representatives councils, praising the advanced level of fruitful cooperation between the executive and legislative branches.

While tackling the upcoming parliamentary and municipal elections, HM the King expressed hope that during the sixth legislative term, the kingdom will be able to optimise its gains and further develop its economy, praising Bahraini citizens’ solidarity and dedication to serving their country, locally and abroad.

The annual report of the Shura Council featured a summary of the keynote royal speech while opening the fourth session of the Fifth Legislative Term, in addition to statistics and data about the Council’s performance and achievements. It also covered the participation of the parliamentary delegations in external events, and the discussions of decree-laws, draft-laws and the state budget.

The Speaker extended her deepest appreciation and gratitude to HM King Hamad for receiving her to submit to him the annual report for the fourth session of the Fifth Legislative Term.

She asserted that HM the King’s support and visions are crucial for enriching the achievements of the state of law and institutions in the kingdom, noting the royal approach is the roadmap for increasing the kingdom’s rich record of landmark achievements.

She expressed pride in HM the King’s unwavering support for the legislative branch, which paved the way for strengthening the democratic process in the kingdom, enabling the National Assembly to enhance its performance and supervisory role, according to the constitutional provisions, and thanks to the effective cooperation of the government, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

She asserted that meeting HM the King and listening to his sound directives and visions motivate the Representatives council to continue assuming its constitutional duties and performing its legislative and oversight role, towards achieving the nation’s top interests and meeting the citizens’ aspirations.

She pointed out that during the fourth session, the Representatives Council had been keen to put the royal directives among the priorities of its work, by providing the necessary legislative structure for the development of investment efforts in the public and private sectors.

It also supported ways to invest in the fields of digital transformation and artificial intelligence, while taking into account environmental changes and their various challenges, she said, adding that it had contributed to supporting the growth of the national economy and facing the challenges that resulted from the pandemic, by providing the necessary means for the government to implement all its economic recovery-related programmes, plans and projects for the benefit of the country and citizens.

HM the King was presented with a copy of the three-chapter Parliamentary Guide to Legislative and Oversight Tools, dealing with legislative and supervisory powers and tools.

The Shura Council Chairman affirmed that the ongoing royal support enjoyed by the legislative branch had been a catalyst for intensifying its constructive efforts to bring about more achievements to the kingdom, noting that HM King Hamad’s directives are a roadmap for the work of the legislative branch, in order to consolidate the democratic practices in the country.

He expressed deep pride in presenting HM the King with the 20th annual report of the Shura Council, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the National Assembly, which is among the fruits of HM the King’s Reform Project.

He indicated that the Shura Council’s annual report reflects the efforts exerted by its members in passing legislation, updating laws, exercising their patriotic role and consolidating the kingdom’s status at various regional and international gatherings, which, he said, is the fruitful outcome of the unlimited support of HM the King and the constant cooperation and coordination of the government, led by HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
