HM King Issues Decree-Law (34) of 2025 Amending Disability Care

Manama: His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa has issued Decree-Law (34) of 2025, which amends certain provisions of Law (74) of 2006 concerning the care, rehabilitation, and employment of persons with disabilities. This decree comes following a proposal by the Prime Minister and the approval of the Cabinet.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the decree-law modifies Law (74) of 2006 by replacing Articles 1(c), 16, and 17. It establishes a Committee under the Ministry of Social Development, appointed by the Cabinet, to oversee disability affairs. This Committee is chaired by the Minister of Social Development and includes representatives from the government, at least at the department director level, and civil society. During their first meeting, members will elect a vice-chair. The Committee has the authority to invite experts for advice, though these experts will not have voting rights. The Committee will also develop internal regulations to govern meetings, decision-making majorities, and organizational procedures. Additionally, terminology changes include replacing "Diwan" with "Authority" and "Supreme Committee" with "Committee."

The implementation of this decree-law is tasked to the Prime Minister and respective ministers, who will ensure it comes into effect the day after its publication in the Official Gazette.
