HH Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad Highlights National Commitment on Environment Day

Manama: His Highness Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Personal Representative of His Majesty the King and Chairman of the Supreme Council for Environment, emphasized the significance of National Environment Day as a crucial occasion to bolster commitment to environmental protection and the conservation of natural resources. He remarked that the day reflects the Kingdom of Bahrain's environmental advancements within the comprehensive development framework spearheaded by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and directed by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

According to Bahrain News Agency, His Highness stated during the Kingdom of Bahrain's annual National Environment Day celebration on February 4 that Bahrain's accomplishments underscore its ongoing dedication to embedding sustainability as a fundamental aspect of its modern development. HH Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad explained that the theme "Restore It to Revive It" for this year's event underscores the Kingdom's steadfast commitment to enhancing its environmental framework. This approach is concentrated on improving resource efficiency and reuse through sustainable practices, supporting national efforts to protect the environment and maintain ecological balance.

His Highness pointed out that the Supreme Council for Environment, in collaboration with relevant authorities, is continually developing policies and legislation that convert environmental challenges into developmental and economic opportunities. These initiatives aim to create an appealing investment climate, generate quality employment for citizens, and reinforce Bahrain's status as a regional leader in environmental innovation.

Furthermore, HH Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad stressed the importance of promoting recycling as a national practice and shared social responsibility, which necessitates stronger partnerships with educational institutions and civil society organizations. He highlighted the pivotal role of Bahraini youth, whose awareness and knowledge are central to the environmental transition, as they advance sustainability with a strong sense of national responsibility.

Concluding his remarks, His Highness reaffirmed Bahrain's commitment to a balanced environmental strategy that aligns development needs with environmental protection, progressing steadily towards a sustainable and prosperous future.

HH Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad also noted Bahrain's significant advancements in waste management, citing a reduction of more than 90 percent in hazardous waste sent to landfill due to the establishment of an advanced technical facility for treatment and conversion into materials for various industries. He added that approximately 610,298 tonnes of waste were repurposed in construction and road projects during 2024, marking a 28.82 percent growth compared to previous years and reflecting the success of national environmental policies in empowering the private sector in this sector.
