Manama: His Highness Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Personal Representative of His Majesty the King and President of the Supreme Council for Environment (SCE), affirmed that the Kingdom of Bahrain continues steadily to consolidate its position in the field of environmental and climate action. This reflects the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, aimed at achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and ensuring a more sustainable future for coming generations.
According to Bahrain News Agency, marking World Environment Day, HH Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad emphasized that the occasion represents an opportunity to highlight national efforts and Bahrain's firm commitment to environmental issues. He noted that Bahrain has become a model in balancing economic development requirements with the protection of natural resources.
HH Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad stated that the Kingdom is moving forward with steady steps towards achieving its climate goals. He mentioned the formal submission of the Biennial Transparency Report (BTR) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in 2025. This report reviewed progress made in implementing climate commitments and national efforts to reduce emissions and enhance adaptation capacity, in line with the Paris Climate Agreement.
HH Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad added that the SCE also submitted the Kingdom's third nationally determined contribution. This includes a roadmap of Bahrain's climate commitments until 2035, with strategic measures to enhance climate action efficiency and support green transition pathways.
HH Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad also highlighted Bahrain's success in building a national database through the National Greenhouse Gas Inventory. Additionally, he noted the implementation of strategic projects derived from the National Climate Change Adaptation Investment Plan in agriculture, water, and green buildings, reflecting the integration of national efforts to protect and sustain the environment.
HH Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad affirmed the Kingdom's continued commitment to its international responsibilities in addressing climate challenges and its advancement of initiatives that contribute to building a more sustainable future.
