Manama: Dr. Diana Abdulkarim Al Jahromi, Secretary General of the Higher Education Council, announced that the recent results from the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2026 underscore the advancement of Bahrain's higher education sector. These results reflect the dedication of Bahraini universities to improving education quality, scientific research, and their contribution to community service and sustainable development.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Dr. Al Jahromi extended her congratulations to the University of Bahrain (UoB) for its impressive performance in the rankings, where it secured a position within the 101-200 category globally. The university's success across several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) highlights its competitiveness and standing in international rankings.
Dr. Al Jahromi also acknowledged the achievements of private higher education institutions in Bahrain. The Applied Science University was ranked within the 101-200 category globally, while Ahlia University attained a position in the 201-300 category. Gulf University made significant progress by entering the 1001-1500 category.
She highlighted that multiple universities achieved remarkable outcomes in SDG 4, Quality Education, at both regional and international levels. This achievement is indicative of ongoing efforts to improve education quality, advance scientific research, and support initiatives with social and developmental impact.
Dr. Al Jahromi emphasized that these accomplishments align with the Higher Education Council's efforts to enhance the competitiveness of Bahrain's higher education sector, in accordance with the National Strategy for Higher Education and Scientific Research (2026-2036). The council collaborates with Times Higher Education to further these aims.
Additionally, Dr. Al Jahromi mentioned that the council is committed to strengthening international partnerships that support higher education quality and global rankings. This includes signing a memorandum of understanding with QS to assist higher education institutions in improving institutional performance, enhancing their presence in international indicators and rankings, and reinforcing Bahrain's position as a regional hub for higher education and scientific research.
