Geneva: Dr. Jaleela bint Al Sayed Jawad Hassan, Minister of Health, met with Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director General of the World Health Organisation (WHO), to discuss further developing cooperation and expanding Bahrain's partnership with WHO in various health disciplines. The minister highlighted the strong ties between the Kingdom of Bahrain and WHO.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Dr. Jaleela underscored the shared commitment to advancing strategic health initiatives, exchanging expertise, and supporting sustainable development goals, particularly in healthcare, chronic disease management, and innovative health systems. On his part, Dr. Ghebreyesus commended Bahrain's development in the health sector and its efforts to enhance healthcare quality and medical innovation.
Dr. Ghebreyesus also acknowledged Bahrain's recent milestone in treating a sickle cell anaemia patient using CRISPR gene-editing technology, describing it as the first such case outside the United States to be globally recognised. He described this achievement as a reflection of the Kingdom's commitment to adopting cutting-edge medical technologies to improve patient care.
Dr. Jaleela emphasised Bahrain's dedication to maintaining strong collaboration with WHO and acknowledged the organisation's role in supporting global health efforts and sustainable health systems. Dr. Ghebreyesus commended the Kingdom's commitment to public health and looked forward to further joint efforts to achieve new milestones in healthcare.
