Global Alliance of Women Religious Leaders to Address Climate Change at COP29.

Baku: The Faith Pavilion at COP29, organised by the Muslim Council of Elders, marked the launch of the "Women, Faith, and Climate" global alliance, aimed at mobilising women religious leaders to address climate change and strengthen women-led climate action globally. According to Bahrain News Agency, the alliance brings together over 50 women religious leaders from eight major religions across 15 countries, representing organisations that collectively benefit more than 73 million people worldwide. Key participants included former President of Ireland Mary Robinson, who emphasised the role of religious leaders in mobilising 5.8 billion people globally to combat the climate crisis, and Ridhima Pandey, a prominent young climate activist. The alliance seeks to leverage the influence of women religious leaders to promote environmental sustainability, strengthen interfaith collaboration, and inspire greater global participation in climate action efforts. It aims to support national and international efforts by hi ghlighting best practices, encouraging renewable energy use, and advocating effective climate policies at global events such as COP30, according to Muslim Council of Elders. Organisations involved include the "Mothers' Union," the "Tzu Chi Foundation," and the "International Union of Superiors General," representing millions of members globally. The initiative also plans media campaigns to raise awareness, greening places of worship, tree planting, and enhanced knowledge exchange among members. The Faith Pavilion at COP29 continues its mission to frame climate change as a moral and spiritual issue, urging policymakers to consider the ethical implications of environmental neglect and commit to decisive action for a sustainable future.
