GCC Secretary General Meets Austrian Foreign Minister to Discuss Regional Security Concerns

Manama: Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), received Beate Meinl-Reisinger, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Austria. The meeting focused on the pressing issues of Iranian aggressions targeting the GCC states and the implications of the escalating tensions in the region. Discussions also included the consequences of the Strait of Hormuz closure, highlighting its threat to regional and international security and stability.

According to Bahrain News Agency, Minister Meinl-Reisinger reiterated Austria's support for the GCC states amidst these attacks, stressing the importance of global efforts to stop these aggressions and ensure the region's security and stability. Albudaiwi expressed gratitude for Austria's supportive position and its efforts to mitigate the regional escalation, as well as its backing for the adoption of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817.

The dialogue also reviewed the relationship between the GCC and Austria, exploring ways to enhance mutual interests and strengthen GCC-European Union relations. They also discussed the progress of the Joint Work Programme (2022-2027) and shared perspectives on recent regional and international developments.
