GCC Permanent Representatives Meet UN General Assembly President in New York

Dubai: The Permanent Representatives of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states to the United Nations in New York met with Annalena Baerbock, President of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly. The GCC delegation was led by Ambassador Jamal Fares Al Ruwaie, Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations, in his capacity as representative of the Kingdom of Bahrain, which currently holds the presidency of the 46th Session of the GCC.

According to Bahrain News Agency, during the meeting, Ambassador Al Ruwaie, along with the permanent representatives of the other GCC member states, briefed the President of the General Assembly on the recent Iranian attacks targeting all GCC countries. They reported that these attacks affected civilian facilities, vital infrastructure, energy installations, airports, and seaports.

The permanent representatives emphasized that these attacks are a violation of the United Nations Charter, international law, and the principles of good neighbourliness. This is particularly significant given the efforts by GCC states to facilitate dialogue and mediation between Iran and the international community.

They also highlighted the readiness and capability of the GCC states' air defence systems to respond to such attacks, neutralize threats, and protect their territories and populations.

For her part, the President of the General Assembly condemned the Iranian attacks on GCC countries and other states in the region. She expressed concern over the situation, extended condolences to the victims' families, and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.

She also praised the GCC states for their commitment to the Charter of the United Nations and international law.
