Manama: The Ministerial Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) held its 50th extraordinary meeting via videoconference, chaired by His Excellency Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain. The meeting included participation from the foreign ministers of the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, and the Secretary General of the GCC. The council gathered to address Iranian missile and drone attacks on GCC countries, which commenced on February 28, 2026.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the council reviewed the extensive damage caused by the Iranian attacks, which targeted civilian and service infrastructures across the region, endangering lives and creating widespread fear. The council condemned these actions as a severe violation of sovereignty and international law, calling them a breach of the principles of good neighborliness and the United Nations Charter.
The council emphasized the unity and indivisibility of GCC security, declaring any attack on a member state as a direct assault on all GCC countries. It affirmed the GCC's right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter and pledged to take necessary actions to protect their sovereignty and stability. The effectiveness of GCC armed forces and air defense systems in intercepting the attacks was commended.
Despite diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions, Iran continued its military operations against GCC countries. The council stressed the importance of ceasing these attacks to restore peace and stability in the region and highlighted the global significance of maintaining security in the Arabian Gulf, which is crucial for international economic stability and maritime navigation.
The council called on the international community and the United Nations Security Council to condemn the Iranian aggressions and take action to prevent further violations. The council expressed gratitude to nations supporting the GCC stance and reiterated the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in resolving conflicts with Iran. It warned against further escalation, which could have catastrophic consequences for regional and international peace.
