Frankfurt Launches English Language Commercial Court

Frankfurt: The city of Frankfurt will launch a new regional commercial court on Tuesday that allows proceedings in English for corporate legal and commercial disputes, aiming to strengthen its position as an international legal centre.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the new court will handle cases valued at 500,000 euros or more and appeals from commercial chambers. Eleven judges have been appointed to the commercial court, alongside seven for the two commercial chambers, all with extensive international experience.

The ministry added that new courtrooms have been prepared near Frankfurt's judicial complex, while a dedicated building is being renovated for the court's future use.

Local officials believe the move will enhance the city's competitiveness with global financial centres such as London and Paris, which already host English language courts.

J¶rg Michael Mller, a member of the Hessen state parliament from the Christian Democratic Union, noted that many commercial cases were previously directed to London or Paris due to the absence of English proceedings in German courts.

Justice Minister Christian Heinz said the initiative would help attract more investment and strengthen Frankfurt's appeal for international businesses.
