Manama: The Kingdom of Bahrain, recognised as a leading financial and banking hub, has positioned itself as a prime destination for hosting global forums and conferences due to its preparedness and forward-looking approach, according to Yves Leterme, former Prime Minister of Belgium. Speaking to Bahrain News Agency (BNA) on the sidelines of the World Business Angels Investment Forum (WBAF 2024), which opened today, Leterme said that Bahrain's successful hosting of international events such as the WBAF strengthens its position as an emerging gateway to the Gulf region. According to Bahrain News Agency, Leterme expressed his satisfaction with the inaugural day of the WBAF and his admiration for Bahrain's initiatives to support startups and young enterprises. He commended Bahrain's model of integrating small and medium-sized businesses into the national economy as noteworthy. Leterme highlighted the Gulf region's role as a hub for connecting initiatives with access to finance, describing it as a "matchmaker" be tween regions. Commenting on recent developments, Leterme pointed to a significant agreement on establishing a corridor between the European Union and Asia, which he referred to as the economic engine of the 21st century. He emphasized the importance of seizing opportunities presented by re-engaging with Asia in the context of global economic history. He remarked that Bahrain, and the Gulf region as a whole, serve as a vital transition hub between the Western world and Asia. By joining forces, the capacity of Bahrain and the region to fulfil this role can be strengthened. Leterme also praised Bahrain's world-class infrastructure and services, noting that Bahrain is a place to return to. He highlighted the high-quality services, starting from the airport to the hotels and the overall surroundings, as a reflection of what Bahrain has to offer to the world.
