Foreign Ministry Undersecretary participates in CICA senior officials’ meeting

Foreign Ministry Undersecretary for Political Affairs, Dr. Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, took part in the meeting of senior officials of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA).

The meeting was held virtually today, chaired by the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Shahrat Nuryshev.

In his speech, Dr. Shaikh Abdullah expressed Kingdom of Bahrain’s appreciation for the constructive efforts made by the Republic of Kazakhstan during its presidency of CICA, congratulating the Republic of Turkmenistan on obtaining the “Observer” status.

He noted that the meeting emphasizes the importance of promoting channels of coordination and cooperation in Asia, in order to consolidate the principles of peace, security and development, as well as to address the existing challenges.

He said that CICA plays an active and distinguished role in achieving these goals, as it is a platform for joint initiative, and exchanging benefits between friendly countries.

He also affirmed that the Kingdom of Bahrain, under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, believes that Asian countries share common interests and objectives, in light of the values and close ties that unite them.

He reiterated Bahrain’s support for modernizing the works of CICA, in order to contribute to building a new Asia to promote the convergence of ideas and cultures, and support sustainable development, in a way that serves the interest of the people of the member states.

It is worth noting that CICA is an intergovernmental forum consisting of 27 member states, 8 observer countries and 5 observer organizations. It aims to promote cooperation for peace, security and stability in Asia. The Kingdom of Bahrain has been actively participating in CICA’s activities since attaining full membership in 2011.
