Manama: Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, received Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Mauritanians Abroad of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, during his official visit to Bahrain. The meeting focused on reinforcing the strong relationship between Bahrain and Mauritania and exploring avenues for enhanced cooperation in economic, trade, and social sectors, as well as strengthening diplomatic coordination in regional and international organizations.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Dr. Al Zayani acknowledged Mauritania's support of UN Security Council Resolution 2817. This resolution, submitted by Bahrain, addresses Iranian attacks on Bahrain, GCC countries, and Jordan. Additionally, he noted Mauritania's backing of Bahrain's efforts through its non-permanent membership in the Security Council to ensure the security of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
Minister Ould Merzoug emphasized the progress made in Bahrain-Mauritania relations, highlighting cooperation in diplomatic work and international forums. He extended his wishes for continued security and prosperity in Bahrain.
The discussions highlighted the historic ties between the two nations and explored ways to enhance cooperation in various sectors. Both ministers reiterated the importance of continued coordination and consultation, especially in supporting nominations for regional and international organizations.
They also exchanged views on current regional issues, particularly the impact of Iranian attacks on Bahrain and other GCC countries. The ministers discussed the potential risks associated with the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and its effects on global trade, energy security, and food supply chains. They stressed the need for strengthening Arab solidarity, supporting joint Arab actions, and intensifying efforts to de-escalate tensions, resolve conflicts, and maintain stability through dialogue and diplomacy.
