According to Bahrain News Agency, Foreign Minister Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani participated in a joint media stakeout organized by several countries to denounce Iran's ongoing attacks on regional countries. These actions have disrupted international trade, threatened global energy security, and impacted the economy. The participating nations also urged the full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2817 and called for the urgent reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
The stakeout included foreign ministers, permanent representatives to the United Nations, and representatives from regional and international organizations. Dr. Al Zayani highlighted the escalating threat, recounting a recent attack on a vessel off the coast of Oman that resulted in the death of an Indian national and noting that Houthi militias launched six ballistic missiles toward Saudi Arabia.
Dr. Al Zayani expressed condolences to India, the victim's family, and those affected by ongoing threats, reaffirming Bahrain's support for Saudi Arabia in confronting these attacks. He delivered a joint statement on behalf of 80 UN member states, reiterating support for Resolution 2817 and condemning Iran's actions, which threaten international security and navigation rights in the Strait of Hormuz.
The statement also condemned the Houthis' decision to resume hostilities in Yemen and their attacks against Saudi Arabia and in the Red Sea. It warned that any Houthi advances toward the Bab Al Mandab Strait could further endanger international navigation and global trade through this crucial waterway.
The signatories called for the urgent reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, ensuring safe and unhindered passage of vessels without illegal charges, in line with international law and the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. They warned that disrupting global trade routes could exacerbate global food security issues, driving up prices and increasing suffering, especially among vulnerable populations.
