Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani, participated today in the Blue Leaders Forum on the Protection of Oceans and Seas, which was held in New York City, and was co-organized by the Kingdom of Belgium and the Federal Republic of Nigeria, on the sidelines of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Discussions focused on areas of international cooperation and ways to reduce emissions, protect the ocean environment in the face of climate fluctuations, and promote the efforts of the international community towards this important environmental issue.
The participants in the forum aim to conserve at least 30% of the ocean by 2030, stave off the negative effects of climate change, establish fully protected marine areas on the high seas, and manage human activities outside protected areas.
