Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani, has praised the support offered to Bahraini women by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

He said the leadership’s support for women aimed to involve them in the comprehensive development process, based on the principles enshrined in the Kingdom’s constitution, the National Action Charter, and the Government Action Plan.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed the nation’s pride in the Kingdom’s celebration of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW), headed by Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of His Majesty the King and SCW President.

“It is an important occasion during which we proudly recall the care and support Bahraini women have received, and the outstanding achievements they have made with efficiency and competence in all areas of national work thanks to the SCW’s tireless effort which empowered them to be effective partners in the nation’s development,” the Minister added.

Dr. Zayani praised the SCW’s constructive role and strenuous endeavours to advance Bahraini women through many constructive initiatives, well-thought-out strategies and ambitious projects that opened up job opportunities for Bahraini women in all fields.

“This has enhanced women’s social status and contributed to the development of the legal system that guarantees full equality and non-discrimination between men and women at work, enabling women to become active partners in the development process in all sectors.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs praised the progress and development of Bahraini women in the field of diplomatic work, and the prominent role they played, whether in their diplomatic work in the ministry or in diplomatic missions abroad, occupying prestigious diplomatic and political positions and playing a considerable role in international organisations.

The minister stressed women’s merit and high efficiency in representing the country, praising the efforts made by the Equal Opportunities Committee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that works on ensuring the application of gender equality and justice in career opportunities.

“The committee has provided the necessary support for female diplomats and administrators and worked on preparing qualified and highly trained leaders, enabling them to engage in diplomatic and administrative work and to represent the Kingdom of Bahrain at home and abroad,” the Minister explained.

Dr. Al-Zayani affirmed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs would continue to make all efforts to advance women working in the ministry, upgrade their capabilities, enable them to assume various diplomatic and administrative positions, and involve them in the implementation of the foreign policy of the Kingdom of Bahrain, based on the lofty directives and wise vision of His Majesty the King, the first supporter of Bahraini women and the supporter of all efforts aimed at their empowerment.
