Foreign Minister Engages in Strategic Talks with UN Security Council Counterparts

Manama: Within the framework of the Kingdom of Bahrain's non-permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council for the 2026-2027 term, and in preparation for the Kingdom's presidency of the Council during the current month of April, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, held telephone consultations with a number of foreign ministers of Security Council member states.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the calls addressed recent regional developments, the continued Iranian attacks on Gulf Cooperation Council countries and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and the efforts undertaken by the Security Council within its responsibilities to maintain international peace and security.

The discussions also covered the draft resolution currently under consideration by the Security Council, submitted by the Kingdom of Bahrain on behalf of the GCC countries and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The resolution focuses on maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz and the implications of its continued closure to international navigation on energy security, international trade, food supplies, and the global economy.

In addition, over the course of two days in New York, the Minister held separate consultations with the Permanent Representatives of Security Council member states, during which views were exchanged on recent regional developments and the substance of the draft resolution submitted by the Kingdom of Bahrain to the Council.
