Manama: Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, issued a statement marking the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers, observed this year under the theme "The Future of Peacekeeping". He expressed the Kingdom of Bahrain's appreciation and support for the efforts of UN peacekeeping forces in maintaining peace and security and promoting regional and international stability, particularly in conflict and crisis zones.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Dr. Al Zayani commended the vital role played by military, police, and civilian personnel serving in UN peacekeeping missions over the past eight decades. He highlighted their noble sacrifices in supporting humanitarian efforts, assisting communities in overcoming conflict, and contributing to a safer, more just, and more sustainable world.
Furthermore, the minister said the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip requires the international community-especially the UN Security Council-to assume its responsibilities by ensuring an immediate and lasting ceasefire, securing the release of hostages and detainees, and responding to the decisions of the Bahrain Summit and the Extraordinary Arab Summit (Palestine Summit) held in Cairo. The decisions include the deployment of international protection and peacekeeping forces under UN auspices in the occupied Palestinian territories until a two-state solution is realised. He stressed the importance of protecting civilians and enabling the safe, sustainable, and unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid, in accordance with international resolutions and the rules of international humanitarian law.
The Minister emphasised that the Kingdom of Bahrain is seeking a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2026-2027 term, as part of its efforts to reinforce its partnership with the United Nations in maintaining international peace and security, and to advance the Sustainable Development Goals as a core pillar of its diplomatic policy.
