Abu Dhabi: Yasser bin Ibrahim Humaidan, Minister of Electricity and Water Affairs, met Dr. Abdullah Hamid Saif Al Jarwan, Chairman of the Department of Energy in Abu Dhabi and Member of the Executive Council, on the sidelines of the opening of the 2025 World Utilities Congress in Abu Dhabi. Minister Humaidan highlighted the significance of the Congress amid the global shift toward renewable energy. He emphasised the need to encourage investment and foster innovation in clean energy and energy efficiency to ensure energy security and sustainability.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Dr. Al Jarwan noted the strong relations between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates and the shared commitment to enhancing cooperation in the energy sector, particularly in the areas of clean energy transition and environmental sustainability. He underlined the importance of exchanging expertise and developing strategic partnerships to achieve common national goals.
The meeting also discussed means to strengthen partnerships and expand cooperation in energy efficiency and sustainable growth. Both sides reviewed national strategies adopted by Bahrain and the UAE to achieve carbon neutrality, with a focus on innovation, technological development in the electricity and water sectors, and sharing best practices in renewable energy policy.
The minister also met with Dr. Maria Panayiotou, Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment of the Republic of Cyprus. The two sides discussed policies and initiatives adopted in both countries to achieve carbon neutrality and promote environmental sustainability. They also reviewed opportunities for cooperation in energy, particularly in energy transmission and distribution using advanced technologies, as well as investment in environmental projects and initiatives aimed at conserving natural resources.
Dr. Panayiotou commended Bahrain's progress in transitioning to a green economy, noting the adoption of international best practices in energy and sustainability. She expressed Cyprus's interest in benefiting from Bahrain's experience and expanding cooperation and knowledge exchange to advance shared interests.
The minister also met with a high-level delegation from Siemens Energy AG, led by Khalid Bin Hadi Al Yafei, the company's General Manager in the United Arab Emirates. The meeting reviewed Bahrain's national plans and initiatives in the field of renewable energy. The Minister noted the government's efforts to reduce carbon emissions by 30% by 2035 and to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060. Discussions also addressed future cooperation opportunities in energy efficiency, decarbonisation, and sustainable technologies.
