Foreign Minister Discusses Vaccine Collaboration with Gavi CEO

Manama: Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, received Dr. Sania Nishtar, Chief Executive Officer of Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance. The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation in vaccine production and immunisation efforts.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the discussions emphasized the vital role of vaccines in safeguarding public health and protecting communities from infectious diseases and epidemics. Dr. Al Zayani highlighted Bahrain's initiative, introduced at the Arab Summit in May 2024, which aims to enhance healthcare for conflict-affected populations, improve pharmaceutical and vaccine manufacturing capabilities in Arab countries, and ensure dependable access to essential medicines and treatments.

The minister reiterated Bahrain's dedication to working with the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the General Secretariat of the Arab League to implement this initiative. Dr. Nishtar praised Bahrain's efforts and expressed Gavi's readiness to partner with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to support the initiative. She emphasized the significance of the initiative in delivering healthcare to conflict-affected populations in the region.
