Finance Minister Meets HE Swiss President to Strengthen Bilateral Ties

Washington: Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Minister of Finance and National Economy, met with His Excellency Guy Parmelin, President of the Swiss Confederation, on the sidelines of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank Spring Meetings in Washington. Shaikh Salman conveyed greetings from His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, along with their best wishes for continued progress and prosperity for Switzerland. The meeting reviewed bilateral cooperation and explored methods to further develop it in alignment with the interests of both nations. According to Bahrain News Agency, the Finance Minister highlighted the longstanding relations between the Kingdom of Bahrain and Switzerland. He emphasized ongoing efforts to advance these relations across various sectors, particularly focusing on economic and financial domains, aligning with mutual goals and aspirations. The discussions culminated in th e signing of an agreement on the promotion and protection of investments between the Government of Bahrain and the Swiss Federal Council. The agreement was signed by Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Minister of Finance and National Economy, on behalf of Bahrain, and by His Excellency Guy Parmelin, President of the Swiss Confederation, on behalf of Switzerland. Shaikh Salman stated that the agreement opens wider opportunities for high-quality partnerships, providing a comprehensive legal framework that ensures fair and equitable treatment and protection of investments. This initiative aims to enhance Bahrain's business environment and strengthen its position as a regional investment hub. The agreement is designed to encourage investment between the two sides by offering a comprehensive legal framework that protects investments against non-commercial risks and ensures the free transfer of investment-related payments. It also promotes corporate social responsibility standards, thereby attracting further h igh-quality investments and supporting sustainable national economic growth. The meeting was attended by Shaikh Abdullah bin Rashid Al Khalifa, Ambassador of Bahrain to the US, and Khalid Ebrahim Humaidan, Governor of the Central Bank of Bahrain.
