Budaiya: The Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, in partnership with the National Initiative for Agricultural Development (NIAD) and supported by stc Bahrain and Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC), has inaugurated the 2025-2026 season of the Farmers’ Market at the Budaiya Botanical Garden. The opening ceremony witnessed the presence of officials and a large number of visitors.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the market, which will run until February 14, 2026, continues to serve as a national model for supporting Bahraini farmers and offering an engaging community experience. This season hosts 33 Bahraini farmers who are providing fresh produce directly from local farms. Additionally, agricultural companies, nurseries, apiaries, productive families, and artisans are participating in this initiative. The market also includes educational and recreational activities for children and community awareness programs on sustainable agriculture and food security.
Restaurants and caf©s enhance the visitor experience by offering a lively social environment that complements the market’s agricultural value with a community-oriented atmosphere.
Shaikha Maram bint Isa Al Khalifa, Secretary General of NIAD, emphasized the importance placed on the agricultural sector and food security by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, supported by directives from His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. This support facilitates the development of agricultural projects and production mechanisms. She also acknowledged the ongoing support from Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, which has helped transform the market into an advanced national platform reflecting the quality of local production.
Asim Abdullatif Abdullah, Undersecretary for Agriculture and Marine Resources, highlighted the market’s role as a leading initiative supporting local agricultural production, reflecting the outcomes of the King’s support for developing the agricultural sector. He noted the government’s efforts, led by the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in advancing agricultural infrastructure and enhancing the competitiveness of local products.
The market serves as an effective platform connecting farmers directly with consumers, offering opportunities to showcase products through modern marketing approaches and strengthening consumer confidence in local produce. It also contributes to raising community awareness about the importance of local agriculture and sustainable practices.
The opening week featured activities such as traditional performances by the Dar Al Budaiya Al Janoubiya Band, agricultural-themed workshops for children, a farm animal zone, a youth market, and a dedicated workshop area, drawing visitors from both inside and outside the Kingdom.
