Experts highlight importance of “Sustainable Water” campaign

Manama, Experts and participants at the “Youth Water Sustainability Forum,” organised by the Supreme Council for the Environment (SCE) as part of the national campaign “Sustainable Water,” emphasised the importance of involving youth in raising environmental awareness and ensuring water resource sustainability in Bahrain.

The forum brought together specialists, officials, and youth to discuss sustainable development goals (SDGs).

The forum included four seminars discussing various topics related to water resources in Bahrain and effective solutions to water scarcity. Presentations were delivered by Engineer Hajar Boudhahi and Engineer Ahmed Al Qattan from the Supreme Council for the Environment, Engineer Abdulrahman Ibrahim Bouhiji from the Ministry of Works, and Professor Ali Hamad Abel from A1 Company.

Speaking to the Bahrain News Agency (BNA), experts praised the “Sustainable Water” campaign for its initiatives aimed at promoting environmental culture. They highlighted encouraging youth to support envi
ronmental efforts and protect natural resources, while recognising official efforts to ensure their sustainability.

Dr. Hesham Al Ammal, Assistant Professor at the University of Bahrain, highlighted the need to raise awareness among youth about water management, calling for their engagement in environmental and water-related matters. He noted that the current generation is not familiar with water springs and green spaces that were abundant in Bahrain in the past. He underscored the importance of directing the efforts of university students and academic research to this strategic issue.

Dr. Dalal Al Alaiwat, Head of the Environmental Engineering Program at Bahrain University of Technology, said that the forum offers university students opportunities to explore the latest trends in water resource management projects.

Noora Al Kuwari, Environmental Awareness Specialist, noted that the forum, under the theme”Every Drop Has a Story,” provides a platform for youth to exchange ideas on achieving water sustainabil
ity, focusing on innovative solutions. She said that topics covered include water resources management, techniques to optimise the consumption of water and using treated water.

Writer Noora Al Mansoori stressed the importance of youth participation in environmental issues, asserting that their involvement is crucial for building a sustainable future.

Abdullah Al Dosari, a participant from the Applied Science University, highlighted that youth engagement in environmental events helps connect them with global sustainability challenges.
