Egypt Exits FIFA World Cup After Defeat to Argentina

Egypt: Egypt exited the 2026 FIFA World Cup after losing 3-2 to defending champions Argentina in the Round of 16. Egypt held a two-goal lead and also saved a first-half penalty before Argentina staged a late comeback to secure a 3-2 victory.

According to Bahrain News Agency, following the match, Egypt head coach Hossam Hassan criticised the officiating and the timing of the fixture, saying the result was affected by decisions he considered unfair. The tournament marked Egypt's fourth FIFA World Cup appearance and saw the team record its first-ever victory at the FIFA World Cup finals and qualify for the knockout stage for the first time.
