Dhaka: The Election Commission (EC) has mandated that election officers across 64 districts expedite the resolution of longstanding 'Category C' applications for National Identity Card (NID) corrections. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the directive has been issued to senior district election officers, National Identity Registration Division officers, and additional regional election officers across 64 districts and 10 regions. The order, signed by National Identity Registration Division Director Md. Saiful Islam, was communicated to regional election officers yesterday. The directive empowers senior district officers, National Identity Registration Division officers, and additional regional election officers in the specified regions to implement a "Crush Programme" aimed at resolving 'Category C' applications for NID corrections. These officers are required to clear pending applications in their respective areas by June 30. Regional election officers are tasked with coordinating and supervising the programme, ensuring the efficient handling of these applications. Additionally, the regional election officers have the authority, as per the office order dated April 21, to allocate responsibilities to neighboring district and upazila or thana election officers based on the number of 'Category B' and 'C' applications. It is imperative for the designated officers to prioritize the settlement of these old applications. Furthermore, the deputy director or assistant director overseeing the 10 regions of the National Identity Registration Division must verify the execution of the 'Category C' crash programme within their jurisdictions through thorough checks and report back to the division director. The director is responsible for monitoring the programme's overall progress and submitting a detailed report to the director general of the National Identity Registration Division.
