Director of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing Receives US Congress Staff Delegation

Manama: Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid Al Khalifa, Director General of the General Directorate of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing, welcomed a delegation of US congressional staff in a continued effort to collaborate with the Embassy of the Kingdom of Bahrain in Washington. The visit aimed at exchanging expertise in criminal justice and rehabilitation.

According to Bahrain News Agency, Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid emphasized that the Alternative Sentencing and Open Prisons Programme is a significant initiative within the comprehensive development framework driven by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. This programme is supported by the government under the leadership of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

Shaikh Khalid praised the contributions of General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior, for the successful implementation of alternative sentencing and open prison initiatives, enhancing the efficiency of Bahrain's correctional system.

He also outlined the programme's goals and achievements, highlighting efforts in education, training, and rehabilitation to reintegrate beneficiaries into society and uphold restorative justice principles.

During their visit, the delegation toured the Open Prisons Complex, gaining insights into its modern facilities, which include educational buildings, integrated residential units, and sports and service amenities designed to foster a rehabilitative environment.

The US congressional staff delegation expressed their admiration for Bahrain's approach to alternative sentencing and open prisons, recognizing it as a model consistent with global best practices and indicative of Bahrain's dedication to human rights and comprehensive reform.
