Manama: Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid Al Khalifa, Director General of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing, received a delegation from the Iraqi Interior Ministry, led by Lieutenant General Hadi Razij Kassar, Assistant Minister of Interior for Training Affairs.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid Al Khalifa emphasized the significance of the Alternative Sentencing and Open Prisons Programme, describing it as a key initiative of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. The initiative reflects humanitarian values and civilisational principles under His Majesty's leadership. Additionally, he highlighted the ongoing support and close monitoring the initiative has received from His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
During the meeting, discussions were held to bolster cooperation, coordination, and the exchange of expertise between Bahrain and Iraq concerning alternative sentencing. The parties also reviewed the implementation of the Alternative Sentencing Programme in Bahrain, the stages of the Open Prisons Programme, and the achievements made thus far.
The Iraqi delegation had the opportunity to tour the Open Prisons Complex, where they were briefed on its facilities. The complex includes state-of-the-art educational buildings equipped with the latest electronic systems, diverse classrooms for a comprehensive learning environment, a carpentry workshop for vocational training, and a sports club.
The delegation praised Bahrain's efforts in advancing the criminal justice system and expressed eagerness to enhance the exchange of expertise and best practices between the two countries.
