Director General of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing Meets Norwegian Ambassador to Discuss Cooperation

Manama: Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid Al Khalifa, Director-General of the General Directorate of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing, recently welcomed Kjersti Tromsdal, the non-resident Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway to Bahrain, along with Monika Thowsen, Deputy Head of Mission. The meeting took place with the objective of exploring Bahrain's initiatives in alternative sentencing and rehabilitation programs.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the visit was aimed at understanding the strides Bahrain has made in implementing its Alternative Sentencing Programme. Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid expressed gratitude for the visit, noting its significance as a gesture of Norway's interest in bolstering bilateral relations. He underlined the pivotal role of the Alternative Sentencing Programme in Bahrain's ongoing development, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. He also mentioned the support of rehabilitation initiatives such as the Open Prisons Programme.

Ambassador Tromsdal received an overview of Bahrain's achievements in the areas of Alternative Sentencing and Open Prisons Programmes, highlighting their impact in the realm of human rights. The discussions delved into ways to foster cooperation and share expertise between the two nations to advance mutual interests.

The Norwegian ambassador expressed her appreciation toward Bahrain's leadership, government, and citizens, recognizing the distinctive progress Bahrain has achieved. She emphasized the importance of enhancing future collaborations between Norway and Bahrain, acknowledging the benefits of shared learning and cooperation.
