Director General of Traffic: 500 New Smart Cameras a Milestone in Enhancing Road Safety

Manama: Major General Shaikh Abdulrahman bin Abdulwahab Al Khalifa, Director General of Traffic, announced the signing of a contract to supply the directorate with 500 smart cameras equipped with the latest technologies to detect traffic violations, marking a significant milestone in strengthening discipline and enhancing road safety.

According to Bahrain News Agency, this initiative is part of the government's directives, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to support the traffic system and upgrade its technical infrastructure in alignment with international best practices.

The Director General expressed appreciation for the guidance and direct oversight of General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior and Chairman of the Traffic Council, noting his dedication to advancing the traffic system and achieving a positive impact in regulating traffic flow and protecting lives and property.

He highlighted that this modern system is part of the effective implementation of Royal Decree Law No. (30) of 2025, issued by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, amending certain provisions of the Traffic Law. The decree, which took effect on August 22 and introduced stricter penalties for traffic violations, has already positively impacted public awareness and compliance with traffic rules.

The Director General confirmed that the Traffic Directorate would continue monitoring violations using smart technologies, supported by intensified field enforcement through security and civil patrols, along with the implementation of ongoing awareness programmes, to safeguard lives and property and promote a safe and sustainable traffic culture.
