London: Ambassador Shaikh Abdulla bin Ali Al Khalifa, Director General of Bilateral Relations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, participated in a ministerial meeting held via videoconference at the invitation of UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper, with the participation of more than 40 countries, to discuss developments related to the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Bahrain News Agency, during the meeting, participants reviewed the latest developments in light of the ongoing Iranian attacks against a number of countries in the region, the continuation of hostilities, and the rising risks threatening international navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. The importance of this vital waterway as a key artery for international trade, energy security, and maritime stability was underscored. The meeting also examined the resulting implications and their economic and security repercussions at both the regional and international levels.
The participants also commended Security Council Resolution 2817, introduced under the leadership of the Kingdom of Bahrain, which received unprecedented international support, and emphasized the importance of strengthening international coordination and cooperation to address current challenges and ensure the smooth flow of international trade in accordance with international laws and norms.
At the conclusion of the meeting, participants stressed the need for continued consultation among the concerned countries and for identifying practical steps that would contribute to strengthening the joint international response in a manner that supports security and stability in the region and safeguards the interests of the international community.
The meeting was also attended by Shaikha Alanood bint Ebrahim Al Khalifa, Acting Chief of the European Affairs Sector.
