Derasat Organises Discussion Session on Bahrain’s Role in Arab League

Manama: The Bahrain Center for Strategic, International, and Energy Studies (Derasat) organised a discussion session on the Kingdom of Bahrain and the League of Arab States from 1971 to 2025, with diplomats, experts and specialists in Arab affairs taking part.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the discussion featured Ambassador Ahmed Mohammed Al Turaifi, Chief of Arab and African Affairs at Bahrain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ambassador Khalil Ibrahim Al Thawadi, former Assistant Secretary General at the Arab League. The session was moderated by Dr. Ashraf Mohammed Keshk, Director of the International and Strategic Studies Programme at Derasat.

The discussion focused on Bahrain's diplomatic role within the Arab League, its support for joint Arab action and solidarity, and its initiatives at Arab summits, particularly the Bahrain Summit 2024. The speakers said Bahrain represents a balanced model of Arab diplomacy based on moderation, openness and consensus-building.

Participants also discussed changes in the Arab regional system, the need to develop joint Arab action mechanisms, and the role of research centres in documenting and analysing Arab experiences for future generations.

The event was part of Derasat's "Think Talks" lecture series on strategic, regional and international issues.
