Deputy Prime Minister Inaugurates Hamad Town Walkway as Part of Bahrain Sports Day Celebrations

Manama: Shaikh Khalid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Deputy Prime Minister, inaugurated the Hamad Town Walkway during the Bahrain Sports Day celebrations, organized by the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture. This event marked a significant step in promoting public health infrastructure and sustainable urban development in the region.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the inauguration was attended by Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture. Shaikh Khalid bin Abdullah emphasized that enhancing public health infrastructure and sustainable urban development are national priorities, aligned with the development process led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and supported by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

Shaikh Khalid highlighted the government's dedication to creating sustainable cities that balance health, environmental, economic, and social needs. He noted that these initiatives aim to provide an integrated lifestyle with facilities that improve the quality of life and encourage regular physical activity in residential communities.

He commended the ministry's efforts in developing public walkways and open spaces, in coordination with relevant authorities. This marks the fourth consecutive year of delivering projects aligned with the government's urban development vision, with walkways across various governorates inaugurated on Bahrain Sports Day to reinforce sports as a community culture.

Minister Al Mubarak emphasized that the Hamad Town Walkway reflects the government's commitment, under the leadership of HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to expanding public facilities that meet citizens' needs and provide health and environmental benefits. He expressed gratitude to Shaikh Khalid bin Abdullah for the government's continued support of development projects, particularly through the Ministerial Committee for Development and Infrastructure Projects, and for his participation in the annual opening of new walkways on Bahrain Sports Day.

Minister Al Mubarak added that the Hamad Town Walkway is part of an urban development strategy, completed in collaboration with the Northern Municipal Council and supported by the Ministry of Works. The project provides parking spaces for visitors, ensuring an integrated and accessible public space.

Located along Shaikh Hamad Street near Roundabout 12, the walkway spans 1.4 kilometers and covers a total area of 15,000 square meters, including 7,500 square meters of green spaces with over 370 shade trees. It features solar-powered lighting to support environmental sustainability and offers over 70 parking spaces for visitors. The walkway is equipped with shaded warm-up stations, dedicated children's play areas with rubber flooring, and inclusive facilities designed to accommodate people of determination. Additionally, the site includes a commercial shop and restrooms, ensuring convenience for all visitors.
