Manama: Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, Deputy Prime Minister, has issued Edict (4) of 2026, which introduces amendments to the structure and operating mechanism of the National Committee for Geospatial Information Governance (NCGIG). This decision follows approval from the Cabinet.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the amendments replace Articles One and Five (first paragraph) of Edict (15) of 2017. Article One establishes the National Committee for Spatial and Geographic Information Governance, affiliated with the Ministerial Committee for Development Projects and Infrastructure. It will be chaired by the head of the Survey and Land Registration Bureau (SLRB) and include representatives from several key governmental bodies such as the Information and eGovernment Authority, Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning, Ministry of Works, and others. The decision to appoint committee members will be made by the Chairperson of the Ministerial Committee for Development Projects and Infrastructure, with representation expected at the Assistant Undersecretary level or an approved lower level.
The revised Article Five dictates that the Committee will meet monthly or as needed, with meetings deemed valid with a majority presence, including the Chairperson or Vice-Chairperson.
Additionally, a new clause, Article One Repeated, allows for the reconstitution of the Committee upon the expiry of its term by a decision from the Chairperson of the Ministerial Committee for Development Projects and Infrastructure. The edict mandates that relevant authorities implement its provisions, effective from the day following its issuance, and it will be published in the Official Gazette.
