Doha: Lieutenant General Adel bin Khalifa Al Fadhel, Deputy Minister of Interior, led Bahrain's delegation at the Second Ministerial Meeting of Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement Authorities in Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states, held in Qatar. In his address, Lt. Gen. Al Fadhel highlighted Bahrain's commitment, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the follow-up of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to being an active regional and international player in combating corruption. He emphasised the Kingdom's continuous efforts to foster meaningful cooperation and adopt best practices and standards for implementing international and regional agreements aimed at promoting integrity and combating corruption. According to Bahrain News Agency, Lt. Gen. Al Fadhel further noted that Bahrain would undertake the necessary constitutional and legal procedures to complete the ratification of the Makkah Agreement after signing it, as part of its support for international and regional anti-corruption efforts and close cooperation in addressing this issue. The Deputy Interior Minister underscored the importance of joint efforts in law enforcement to combat corruption and enhance integrity. He emphasised that the implementation of the Makkah Agreement would bolster international cooperation among law enforcement authorities in combating corruption through collaboration, information exchange, capacity building, and training in detecting, investigating, and prosecuting corruption crimes, as well as tracing illicit proceeds. The meeting discussed several initiatives and resolutions, including the draft resolution on the Makkah Agreement for OIC member states and another on enhancing cooperation in developing methodologies and indicators to measure corruption levels and assess the effectiveness of anti-corruption frameworks. On the sidelines of the meeting, the Deputy Interior Minister met with Slagjana Taseva, Dean of the Intern ational Anti-Corruption Academy (IACA). During the meeting, he was briefed on the academy's programmes and avenues for joint cooperation, including the activation of a memorandum of understanding signed between the two parties to develop advanced training programmes aimed at promoting integrity and combating corruption.
