Paris: The second edition of the Watch and Jewellery Initiative 2030 (WJI 2030) CEO Forum recently convened in Paris under the theme "The Value of Principles and Transparency in an Era of Disruption and Polarisation". This forum focused on innovative strategies for businesses to future-proof themselves through enhanced transparency and disclosure, attracting over 70 C-suite leaders from the watch and jewellery industry. According to Bahrain News Agency, the forum featured sessions led by global strategy experts, including Martin Reeves, Chairman of the BCG Henderson Institute. The institute is a think tank dedicated to exploring new insights in business, technology, economics, and science. These discussions underscored WJI 2030's commitment to driving sustainability and transparency within the luxury sector, affirming that collaboration and collective action are essential to navigate the current era of disruption. WJI 2030, the jewellery industry's leading body, aims to steer the sector toward sustainabilit y by working with its members, strategic partners, and the broader industry to develop impactful solutions. The initiative focuses on delivering meaningful outcomes across three pillars: climate resilience, biodiversity and nature (resource preservation), and inclusiveness. Noora Jamsheer, CEO of DANAT, chairs the Nature and Biodiversity pillar. Founded by Kering Group and Cartier, WJI 2030 is driven by a shared conviction that achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and creating a sustainable industry requires strategic collaborative efforts. Its membership includes leading brands such as Chanel, Pandora, Boucheron, Cartier, Gucci, and Bottega. Jamsheer highlighted the jewellery industry's vital role in personal luxury goods, stating: "As a leader in this sector, the jewellery industry has a responsibility to reflect the essence of luxury through integrity, responsibility, and prestige. Upholding these values today demands that businesses actively address the climate challenge." She emphasize d the importance of both people and the planet, noting the conscious consumer's growing tendency to ask critical questions. She further explained that engaging Millennials and Gen Z, projected to make up 70% of the luxury market by 2025, requires the jewellery industry and luxury brands to shift toward sustainability. While the essential pillars of luxury; beauty, comfort, and elegance; remain unchanged, new lifestyle aspirations are reshaping priorities. True luxury, she added, cannot exist without embracing ecological principles, and today's consumers appear to resonate with this shift.
