Council for International Dispute Resolution Secretary-General Engages with Suriname Arbitration Institute Board

Paramaribo: The Secretary-General of the Council for International Dispute Resolution of the Kingdom of Bahrain, Professor Marike Petrani Paulsson, paid an official visit to the Suriname Arbitration Institute (SAI), where she met with members of the Board to discuss future collaboration in arbitration and alternative dispute resolution.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the meeting was attended by members of the SAI Board, including Dr. Ferdinand Welzijn, former Minister of Justice and Police of the Republic of Suriname, and Willem van Baren, former President of the Netherlands Arbitration Institute. Participants exchanged views on institutional development, best practices in managing cross-border commercial disputes, particularly those arising in the oil and gas sector, and the role of regional arbitration centers in supporting investment and commerce.

The discussions further explored potential support by Bahrain in training programs, technical cooperation, and knowledge-sharing initiatives aimed at strengthening arbitration and mediation frameworks in Suriname and the wider Caribbean.
