Manama, The United Nations Human Settlement Programme (UN-Habitat), in partnership with the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, continues to promote sustainable urban development through its ongoing Buthoor Al Bahrain (Seeds of Bahrain) campaign.
The initiative aims to contribute to national efforts to increase greenery, combat climate change and enhance the quality of life for all residents of Bahrain.
The campaign actively engages with communities across Bahrain by visiting parks and gardens to promote environmental stewardship and distribute trees to residents.
This initiative is supported by the Municipal Councils and their members, with oversight from Capital Municipality and the three Municipalities involved in the distribution and placing of trees.
The campaign visited Dohat Arad Park, Barbar Park, A’ali Walkway and Busaiteen Park, where team members interacted with local community members, emphasising their important role in greening public streets.

airman of the northern region municipal council, highlighted the significance of the Seeds of Bahrain campaign in raising environmental awareness among citizens and residents, encouraging them to care and plant trees to strengthen community partnership.
He affirmed the council’s support for the campaign, noting that the visit to Barbar Park received excellent engagement from the residents through the distribution and planting of seeds.
Al Wedai indicated the campaign’s contributions in the northern area, with plans to visit several locations in collaboration with council members, emphasising ongoing cooperation with UN-Habitat to achieve sustainable development goals.
Dr. Fernanda Leonardo, Head of UN-Habitat Country Programme in Bahrain, noted that engaging with communities fosters sustainable living and instils responsibility towards the environment among citizens and distributing trees symbolises care and supports the mission of enhancing urban sustainability.
Seeds of Bahrain campaign aligns with Bahr
ain’s commitment under the National Afforestation plan, which aims to double the number of trees by 2035.
The campaign will continue to visit various parks and public spaces across Bahrain in the coming months.
