Dubai: Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim Al Aseeri, Chief Executive Officer of the Bahrain Space Agency (BSA), participated in a specialised seminar on monitoring climate change and dust from space, organised by the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre in cooperation with the Emirates Society for Geospatial Information and Remote Sensing. The seminar focused on the utilisation of advanced technologies to monitor environmental changes in arid regions.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the seminar was presented by Professor Hisham Al Askary of Chapman University in the United States. It explored the application of satellite-based Earth observation, remote sensing, geographic information systems, climate modelling, and artificial intelligence. These technologies are pivotal in monitoring climate-related risks such as dust, air quality, desertification, and land surface changes.
Dr. Al Aseeri highlighted the strategic importance of these technologies in addressing environmental challenges in the Middle East and North Africa. He underscored their role in enhancing national capabilities in space-based climate and environmental monitoring. The seminar also supported Bahrain's efforts in environmental sustainability and ensuring water and food security.
This participation is part of the Bahrain Space Agency's ongoing efforts to strengthen international scientific cooperation in Earth observation and climate change. It aims to build partnerships for knowledge transfer and the localisation of advanced technologies, aligning with the goals of Bahrain Economic Vision 2030.
