BERRI HOLDS KEY DISCUSSIONS WITH BOU HABIB, ABI RAMIA

House Speaker, Nabih Berri, on Tuesday welcomed Caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, Abdallah Bou Habib, at the second presidency in Ain al-Tineh. The meeting reportedly focused on the country’s general situation, and the latest political developments.

Speaker Berri also met with the Chairman of the Youth and Sports Committee, MP Simon Abi Ramia, who is also a member of the “Strong Lebanon” bloc. The pair discussed various developments, particularly the issue of Syrian displacement and legislative affairs.

In his meeting with Speaker Nabih Berri, MP Simon Abi Ramia focused on the pressing issue of Syrian displacement in Lebanon and the role of the Parliament in addressing this challenge. Abi Ramia emphasized the importance of proactive parliamentary engagement, proposing that Lebanese MPs leverage “parliamentary diplomacy” by convening heads of parliamentary friendship committees. This initiative aims to coordinate a unified approach to the displacement issue and conduct diplomatic tours in
European capitals, as well as the United States and Russia, to garner international support and pressure foreign governments to consider Lebanon’s national interests.

Abi Ramia also addressed the broader political landscape, particularly the presidential election. He stressed the need for internal Lebanese consensus, highlighting that while international actors can facilitate discussions, the decision must remain a sovereign Lebanese one.

Abi Ramia finally called for prior dialogue and consultation among Lebanese politicians to ensure a clear and unified decision when electing the next President, prioritizing the national interest over sectarian and partisan divisions.

Additionally, Speaker Berri hosted MP Walid Al-Baarini of the “National Moderation” bloc. The pair reviewed political developments and legislative affairs.
